Dragon Dance in front of the New Dam. Hanging scroll, ink and colors on paper. Inscription by the artist: “New Songs on the Working Field. In the fifth month of the year 1982 painted by Song Wenzhi in Nanjing”. One seal of the artist: “Song Wenzhi yin”.
According to the owners, from a private collection in Hesse, collected between 1970 and 2015
Song Wenzhi was from Taicang in Jiangsu province. He studied at the Jiangsu Chinese Painting Academy and was a pupil of Wu Hufan (1894-1968) and Lu Yanshao (1909-1993). Later he travelled with Fu Baoshi and in 1982 became director of the Nanjing Academy. In his landscapes he often incorporated the signs of technical progress in modern China
